Digital Masterpieces on a Budget
Welcome to Part 2 of my exposé on Project Dogwaffle. PD Howler & PD Artist (same as Howler without the animation tools) are incredibly powerful. Before I forget, I want to remind you that, as is the case with all of my product/technology reviews, I have received no financial endorsements for this review. The PD Graphics suite empowers you to create incredible scenes with sculpted landscapes with a wide array of flora. And the software is straight forward to learn and use. Instead of sweating over technical software details, you will enjoy painting amazing art on your computer. PD Howler & Artist work well with a mouse and soar with a digital tablet. Before I discuss the features of this mighty graphics engine, I want you to view a Philip Staiger’s short demonstration/tutorial video for creating landscapes. Although this video teaches you to how to paint canyon landscapces, I want you to just watch the video. Why? Because the video demonstrates the power & ease of PD Howler/Artist for the novice. This demo was created with version 9.6 (the next previous version) but it is still relevant in terms of tools & functions. I just like this video because it provides an awesome example landscape creation. Feel free to fast forward throughout the video to view the different features.
With the tools available in PD Howler/Artist, one can digitally paint truly amazing art. Let’s look at the features:
Comprehensive Paint-First Environment
Explore the fantastic with unique tools, such as realistic foliage painting and scenery rendering. Howler is not only packed with high powered technology, but it’s also easy and fun to use.
Other products use vectors, stacks of objects, or some hybrid approach, which can produce nice-clean results, but can also be overly sterile, or just too fiddly.
Howler is designed to smash pixels onto the screen fast, and let you blend, mix, and move them around as quickly and intuitively as possible. It’s a workflow we call Burn & Go.
Don’t stop with a static image, because almost any filter can be animated.
You can also load AVI video, or a sequence of images, or just a portion of them, and edit them too.
Howler also has a full set of tools for traditional animators.
Everything from exposure sheet to frame scanning is here.
Light table, or ‘onion skin’ lets you see prior and future frames just like the tools used in the big studios.
Non-photo blue pencil removal and cleanup tools help keep your art looking good!
A World of Fun!
Howler contains a huge assortment of super fast, full featured filters, most of which can even be animated.
